Horses daily nutritional requirements 3.5 to 4.5mg per day.  (A 750g pot is sufficient to supply the iodine requirements of one hundred 450kg horses for over five years.)

Antimicrobial resistance is a serious problem, there is little research into new drugs and restricted use of available medicaments is encouraged. Anecdotally, resistance and/or lack of susceptibility is also increasing. Use of oral iodine products is therefore being rediscovered and novel applications investigated.

Dose levels of 8g per day ( one heaped 5ml scoop) have traditionally been used by veterinary surgeons for a 450kg horse. (R. Pilsworth personal communication)
